Day 11 Privacy and Security

Digital Citizenship - Introduction

Before we jump into the unit, take a minute to think about what digital citizenship means and what role you play in being an internet user.

Tasks:


  1. Click on the Padlet link,  "What Does Digital Citizenship Mean to You?" and answer the question.
  2. In order to promote digital citizenship, one must be aware of both the positive and negative aspects of creating an online identity.  Click on the 01 Online Identity – Pros and Cons link and add your thoughts to the list.
  3. Think about how you can protect and promote your own positive digital presence.  Create a Google Drawing and start listing what you’re currently doing and what you can do in the future to promote a positive online identity.  We will continue to add to this list throughout the semester.

  1. Watch the following PSAs and think about the common elements included in each one:
    1. Gun Violence PSA
    2. Babysitter Training PSA
    3. Student-Created Suicide Prevention PSA
  2. You are going to create a PSA on Digital Citizenship using a Web 2.0 tool called PowToons .
  3. When creating your PSA some of the questions you should be asking yourself...
    1. How can you grab the viewer’s attention early and hold it?
    2. How can you make your point clearly and concisely?
    3. How can you offer and propose specific actions your audience can take?
    4. What is the importance of using and offering accurate facts?
    5. How can you propose behavioral change?
  4. Your job is to Sign up for a Powtoon account and create a 1-minute  PSA that relates to Digital Citizenship.  (See below for a list of important project documents).

Everfi: Ignition - Wireless Communication (viral photo):
  • go to everfi.com/login
  • enter your email address and password
    • use you @student.leyden212.org email address
    • use first initial / last initial / locker combo as your password
  • click Log In
  • click Continue
    • if necessary, complete the Day 1 through Day 9 activities before doing the following
  • put on your headphones, turn down the volume, and click the Wireless Communication rectangle
  • click the Photos Gone Viral balloon
  • after video, take out a notebook to jot down some notes, Click Check on Jennifer, then click the Jennifer’s Picture balloon and follow the on-screen instructions
    • What should you do if your receive inappropriate text messages or emails?
    • True or False? Having a picture of a nude or semi-nude minor may be considered child pornography and is against the law?
  • Take the Post-check
  • continue through the simulation, taking notes along the way
